Mental Illness – getting rid of the stigma – it’s nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about.

Look around you…did you know 1/5 people are afflicted with this horrible disease?!  Personally I think it’s closer to 1/3.

I have a family member who suffers from Anxiety and Depression, and they have told me how there are days that can be, excuse my words, “It can be Hell!”

Some of you might find it very difficult to understand, but the best thing that you can do for your family member, friend, colleague is just let them know you are there for them.

Let them know that personally you do not know 100% what they are going through, but you are there for them.  You are not upset or confused about why they’re feeling the way they are.  Never, ever telling them, “Why would you feel the way you do, because you have a great life, you have a great family, everyone loves you”.  Never, ever say that to them because they already know this.  Telling them or implying this will make them feel even worse!  So do not say this to a family member, a friend, or anyone for that matter that suffers from mental illness.

Let the person know they are supported by you and you are here to listen anytime they need to talk.  You are not there to judge them.

Mental illness is a disease that we are thankfully very aware of.  If you yourself are suffering from anxiety and/or depression, please go and seek help – know there are supports out there for you.  Know that you are not alone.
